11/19/19
WQPT, PBS for the Quad Cities region will celebrate the 20th anniversary of America's Test Kitchen with a special event on Thursday, December 5, at Scott Community College's Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Center. The free event begins at 6 p.m. and includes demonstrations of the show's fan-voted most popular recipe (shrimp scampi), tours of the culinary lab, food samples, talks from a gadget expert, America's Test Kitchen giveaways, and much more.
We are excited to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of America's Test Kitchen with the Culinary Arts Program at Scott Community College," said WQPT Director of Education and Outreach, Michael Carton. "America's Test Kitchen is all about inspiring confidence, community, and creativity in the kitchen, and this event is sure to do the same!"
"We couldn't be more pleased to partner with WQPT and are extremely happy they reached out to us for this event," said Diane Stanley, Department Coordinator for SCC's Culinary and Hospitality Programs. "Chefs Reese and Lewis have some very special recipes cooked up for the evening. We're excited to show off our facilities to the public and invite everyone to join in the fun."
Eastern Iowa Community Colleges' Continuing Education Department is also partnering to offer cooking classes the America's Test Kitchen way! Upcoming America's Test Kitchen cooking classes include Shrimp Scampi and Perfect Pizza at Home.
"Over the past 20 years, America's Test Kitchen has whisked nearly four million eggs, sifted through 52 thousand pounds of flour, and cooked with over 2,500 pounds of garlic to perfect thousands of recipes," said WQPT Interim General Manager, Terry Wilson. "The show's time-tested recipe development process involves a staff of 50+ professional cooks and a vast network of volunteer home cooks who ground each recipe in the realities and palates of the home kitchen. We can't wait to share the show's fan-voted most popular recipe with our viewers."
Tickets are available online on the WQPT Facebook Event Page or by calling WQPT at 309-764-2400.
WQPT will also be celebrating the show's milestone by airing America's Test Kitchen's 20th Anniversary Special on Friday, December 13 at 7 p.m.
